Imides

An imide is a functional group in organic chemistry characterized by a nitrogen atom bonded to two acyl groups – typically represented as the structure O=C—N—C=O. This arrangement mimics the behavior of an anhydride. They are structurally related to amides but contain two carbonyl groups (C=O) attached to nitrogen, making them more rigid and less reactive than simple amides.
Imides play a significant role in the synthesis of various compounds, including polymers, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals.
