Science materials

In chemistry, the term ‘materials’ encompasses a broad range of substances – whether single elements, pure compounds, or complex mixtures – that constitute the objects around us. Materials can range from pristine, highly purified substances to those exhibiting noticeable impurities. Crucially, they can be categorized as either living (such as organic compounds) or non-living (including minerals, polymers, and ceramics). The study of materials is fundamentally based on their properties, which encompass both their physical characteristics – like density, melting point, and conductivity – and their chemical attributes, including reactivity and composition. Understanding how a material is formed—whether through geological processes, biological activity, or synthetic methods—is also a key element of its study.
