Friedel–Crafts acylation

Friedel-Crafts acylation is a widely used chemical reaction that involves the introduction of an acyl group onto an aromatic ring, typically benzene, via the reaction with an acyl chloride or anhydride in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst such as AlCl3. This process yields a ketone derivative attached to the aromatic ring. It is a type of electrophilic aromatic substitution (EAS) reaction, where the acyl group (RCO-) serves as the electrophile.
