Desymmetrization

Desymmetrization, in chemistry, refers to a reaction that transforms a molecule with symmetry elements into a chiral molecule, effectively breaking the molecule’s symmetry. This process often involves converting a prochiral or meso compound into a chiral product by selectively modifying one of a pair of identical, yet distinguishable, groups within the molecule.
