Vapor

The term ‘vapor’ describes the gaseous phase of a substance that is typically found in a liquid or solid state at standard room temperature and pressure. Essentially, vapor represents the gaseous form of a substance that has transitioned from its condensed state – meaning it’s normally found as a liquid or solid under these conditions. A common example is water vapor, which is the gaseous manifestation of liquid water. The formation of vapor involves the absorption of energy, often in the form of heat, which overcomes the intermolecular forces holding the substance in its condensed state. Understanding the properties of vapor is crucial in many areas of chemistry, including phase transitions and atmospheric science.
