Induction (Inductive effect)

Induction generally refers to an electronic effect where a substituent influences the electron distribution in a molecule through sigma bonds. This effect is also known as the inductive effect, and it’s a permanent shift in electron density caused by the electronegativity difference between atoms. It results in a partial positive and partial negative charge within the molecule.
