Carboxylic acid esters

Carboxylic acid esters are organic compounds that arise from the substitution of a hydrogen atom within the hydroxyl group (-OH) of a carboxylic acid with an alkyl or aryl group, typically derived from an alcohol. This chemical reaction is referred to as esterification, yielding the creation of a novel functional group known as the ester group (R-COO-R’). Characterized by their distinctive and pleasant aromas, esters are commonly found in essential oils and waxes.
