Benzyl Group

The benzyl group (or benzyl radical) is a fundamental molecular fragment with the formula C₆H₅CH₂-. This group consists of a planar, unsaturated ring structure known as benzene (C₆H₆), directly bonded to a methylene (-CH₂-) linkage. The carbon atom in this linkage is referred to as the benzylic carbon, which forms the core of the benzyl group.
