Chiral metal complexes / organometallics

A class of compounds that contain chiral ligand complexed by coordination bonds with desired transition metal ion. Chiral metal complexes are usually used as catalysts in asymmetric transformations in organic synthesis when chiral compound is obtained from achiral substrate. Organometallics are chemical compounds containing at least one chemical bond between a carbon atom and a metal (alkali, alkaline earth, and transition metals, and metalloids like boron, silicon, and selenium). Most organometallic compounds can be synthesized by reactions of a metal with an organic halide, metal displacement, metathesis and hydrometallation. Many organometallic compounds are air sensitive. They are widely used in chemical reactions, both as stoichiometric reagents and as homogenous catalysts.
