Hyperconjugation

In organic chemistry and biochemistry, the addition of a hydroxyl group (-OH) to a molecule is a crucial step in modifying its properties. This process, known as hydroxylation, involves the transfer of a hydrogen atom to an oxygen atom, resulting in the formation of a new bond. Enzymes, specifically those belonging to the hydroxylase family, play a pivotal role in mediating this reaction. By leveraging their catalytic activity, researchers can control the rate and specificity of hydroxylation, allowing for the precise modification of molecules.
