Acetylation

Acetylation is a chemical reaction in which an acetyl group (CH3CO) is added to a molecule, often replacing a hydrogen atom in the process. This type of reaction is also referred to as ethanoylation according to IUPAC nomenclature and is considered a form of acylation. Notably, this reversible modification is particularly prevalent among proteins.
